Puff-n-Stuff -- Authentic German Peanut Puffs

First a little housekeeping. In her post about the cinnamon pretzels, the Lady sent a shout out the Food Science Lab at UGA without giving them a hearty GOOOOOOOO DAWGS! So GOOOOOOOOOO DAWGS! GET 'EM, SIC 'EM! My apologies, she went to Tech. Now on with the review.

Peanut Puffs, I just love saying it. Ingestinging it...well....you'll see. Ladies and Gentlemen, on my triumphant return I give you....Deutsche Kuche Authentic German Peanut Puffs!

And you thought rotten cabbage was a bad idea!

The German people have a long history of bad decision making. The Eurozone, Kraftwork, that really angry dude in the 40's. I mean their love of David Hasselhoff alone should disqualify them from making any choices for the remainder of the human habitation of this planet. So you would think that I would know better than to try some German snack food. But they had me at puff. As you know from earlier reviews I love cheese puffs and I also love the Lady's pancake puffs (oddly, not a euphemism AND a euphemism).

These things are really strange. I expected them to taste like a larger version of peanut butter crunch cereal only salty. They tasted nothing like that. It was an odd corn puff - minus delicious cheese + unsalted peanuts (not peanut butter mind you - just peanuts). I didn't like them which is weird cause I love puff food and I love peanuts. You know who did love them? My dogs - they went crazy for these things! I hope they don't have peanut allergies. Can dogs have peanut allergies? One moment....the interwebs seems to think not and since I didn't have to stab either of them with an epipen, I concur.

So there you have it - if you have dogs who like puffs and peanuts give these a try, otherwise, steer clear! On a related note - I'd like to know if any of our German readers can confirm that these are actually eaten in Germany. By humans.

I give these seasonally available Deutsche Kuche Authentic German Peanut Puffs an I+. I for humans, plus for canines.

  2. So they do eat these in Germany. Interesting. I was disappointed probably more by own expectations that they'd taste like the peanut butter cereal - which I love - than by the actual taste. But my dogs seriously loved those things. Thanks for answering my question. I really was wondering if they just slapped Duetsche Kuche on things and tried to pass them off as German. Now I know - it's true!

  3. Wow, after reading a handful of your reveiws, I will say that you are obviously extremely criticle of aldi food. Perhaps you'd be happier shopping at a more American grocer like Kroger. You mention that you should know German food because you are 1/4-1/2 German yet as it looks you have never been to Germany. It seems very apparent to me that you are the typical know it all American that I am ashamed of every time I travel abroad. Our family makes more than enough money to shop at any grocery store we want - whole foods, epicurean markets, wherever... I choose to shop at aldi for many of my groceries simply because more often than not their food is better. Please stop writing reveiws on things you know nothing about, not all of us Americans are as ignorant as this article. If you'd like to write some reviews, try writing a few on capn krunch or fruit loops, ball park franks, lays potato chips, twinkees, etc... Or maybe restuarants like bob Evans or cracker barrel. While you are at it, wave the red white and blue, get loud enough in public that everyone in 3 blocks can hear you, and tell everyone you live in the greatest country in the world because we have Freedom!

    1. I should also add that when I say Aldi food is better, that I spent 10 years working in very high end kitchens. I have served ex- presidents, many many celebrities, and proudly served other chefs. I have studied culinary arts in the US, France, Germany, and Italy. I do not work in that industry anymore because of the amount of hours one needs to put into make a restaurant profitable, but I do continue to study as a love and throw some pretty amazing parties a few times a year. I do my everyday shopping at Aldi. If you are a tv dinner type of family, aldi may not be your best place, but if you prepare the bulk of your food from scratch, as most Europeans do, Aldi is a great place to shop. Remember it IS a European grocer. For parties, aldi is not my place, I will usually order through some of my chef friends for ingredients- I realize most don't have that luxury. But I have made hundreds of meals I would be proud to serve to anyone in the world using nothing more than everyday things you can find at Aldi combined with my fresh herbs, and my oils.

    2. You're entitled to your opinion lady, but I had a bag of these and thought they were amazing! Drove 50 miles to my nearest Aldi but they were out of them.

    3. I think the typical American is so sugar addicted that They don't like these wonderful puffs because they are sugar free. They probably hate pure peanut butter also. Probably also weight 300 plus.

    4. I just tried them yesterday and I loved them so much, I went back and bought two more bags.

After reading this persons comments I absolutely agree. My wife and I lived in Germany for 9 years and at the time Aldi was the bargain basement supermarket. Now here in the UK it is making a name for it's self. Vegetables are so much cheaper and as good as Tescos and othe UK supermarkets along with other products. As for the peanut puffs we like them and there is less fat, and salt than in normal crisps. As for the comment about you dogs loving them, most dogs would anything you give them. And as for you saying this (Quote The German people have a long history of bad decision making ) What the hell would you know about Germany.

This person has too much to say about nothing. I like America and I like the American people and have been to different parts of America and met some of the nicest people ever. BUT Who invented junk food, and has the highest population of overweight people in the world. I rest my case.

    1. Thank you very much for your text, as a german I found the review of the lady a little bit outrageous,
since her review implied to the reader that germans like to eat dogfood or are close to do so.
After several holidays in the U.S. in rented houses, where we use to cook for us and of course needed to go to zje supermarkets there, I do ask just one question to the lady: where is the quality and the big choice of f.ex. bread, cheese and sausages like in germany or europe. Who cares about Erdnussflips ?

  5. if you don't expect these to taste like sugary kids cereal for some reason, these are actually really tasty in my opinion! they taste like peanuts and they have all of like 3 ingredients so it doesn't taste like you're eating stuff that's been run through a chemical laboratory

  6. I have a German friend who buys these at Aldi. He let us try some -- and I think they are good. (BTW: I don't normally eat snacks such as chips, puffs, etc.)
And yes, dogs will eat most anything. Mine eats everything except for blueberries.

  7. I love the peanut puffs. I only wish they carried them in the store more than a few weeks a year!

  8. I love them! But I can't find them at our store anymore! Makes me very sad!

  9. Stupid blogger...doe4sn't know crap ! Peanut puffs are the real deal...great tasting, delicious, and yep, they're even a healthy snack. The blogger needs to stay with that chemical laden American junk food, because that's obviously all she knows about. If you've never been to Germany, don't say anything negative about this country. I am German and I take a deep offense over your hideous and obnoxious comment.I don't care whether you're 1/4 or 1/2 German by family, if you're not born there, you ain't a German !!!! I got a German Shepherd, born in America...is he German ? Yep, probably more than you blogger, because my Shepherd understands German commands - you don't !!!!!

  10. I think they're awesome. Stocked up on half a dozen bags before my local Aldi sold out. The blogger is entitled to their opinion for sure, but sounds like they're looking for something sweet, which these are not. OK to critique, but different to criticize...

  11. I love these puffs, I grew up with them. I used to get them in tesco too and now find them in Polish shops. They are a little crisper than the tesco and German ones but they give us our peanut puff fix.

  14. I really think your text is a little bit outrageous,
since your review implied to the reader that germans like to eat dogfood or are close to do so.
After several holidays in the U.S. in rented houses, where we use to cook for us and of course needed to go to the local supermarkets, like Publics, Walmart etc., I do ask just one question to you: where is the quality and the big choice of f.ex. bread, cheese and sausages like in Germany or Europe. Where is it - I could not found it, so for this much important case: Who cares about "Erdnussflips" ? (the german word for it) And may I please tell you a word about wrong decisions? Thanks - our nation is more than 1.000 old, shure there was enough time to made some bad decisions, compare to a young nation like yours. Even your president says it all the time, that your country have made a lot of wrong decisions in the very past. So what is left ? Just David Hasselhoff, who is still looking for freedom ? It seems to me that you do not have a great respect for this american artist. Well, may be not a great one, but a proper actor in his younger days - I guess he loves Aldi Food, even the puffs !

  15. These puffs ROCK! Aldi is the place for these and for HALF SOUR PICKLES! Aldi, please carry the half sours all the time-the price is reasonable and the quality is top-notch.

  16. Listen. I don't care what other people don't like. Including my family. None of them will eat these Puffs, and I say, that's just fine by me. Before they went off the "seasonal" shelf, I had bought a ton of bags of them and they took up one whole shelf in the large freezer. I just opened my last one, and they are still as fresh as the first bag. I just wish that they were available year around. By the way, what is the official Peanut Puffs season?

  17. I love this snack. My only complaint is that they are not always available in our two stores here. When they have them I stock up.
